The country's Sharemilkers are concerned that they will not get shares in the Dairy Mega-Co-op being set up in the Dairy
Industry's major restructuring.
Rodney Dairy Farmer and former Auckland Federated Farmers President, Penny Webster says it is vital to the future of the
Dairy Industry that Sharemilkers get a fair stake in the Share Issue when the Mega-Co-op is formed.
"The stakes for Sharemilkers are now higher than ever because the restructuring provides revenues to be split between a
milk price and dividends.
"As far back as 1987 I warned that paying Sharemilkers only the milk revenue would not encourage the long term career
Sharemilkers to invest in the industry. Large herd sizes mean Sharemilkers must make a considerable investment and long
term commitment. Their investment and commitment must be recognised to ensure the future of dairying in this country.
"Sharemilkers are determined that they won't stand by and let Industry Leaders overlook them on this crucial issue.
"Dairy Industry Leaders must finally recognise that Sharemilkers have a considerable stake in the Industry. Sharemilkers
are the future of the industry and it's time they were paid more than just lip service by those at the top.
"The reform of the Dairy Industry is about securing the future of our industry. Sharemilkers are a vital part of that
future and must be given a fare stake in the Mega-Co-op," said Penny Webster.
Penny Webster has worked for many years within the Sharemilkers Section of Federated Farmers and is the former President
of Auckland Federated Farmers. She was also the National administrator for the National Sharemilker of the Year
Competition for over 10 years.
