"If President Clinton thinks he is welcome in NZ after his tariff hoists he could be right.
Many of our lamb farmers, Dairy farmers and Growers of fruit and vegetables would love to see him". Says Heartland NZ
spokesman Les Maxwell.
The only proviso being…that he tells our prime Minister how in his country they look after the interests of their
productive sectors. In a annoying way he has done that already, but what did we expect from the World's most powerful
nation". He continued.
"Mrs. Shipley has exposed all New Zealand producers to the chilling winds of free trade. The US, by contrast, basks in a
more temperate zone debating the virtues of free trade whilst ensuring that they do not crucify them as they supposedly
adjust to the widely accepted free trade doctrine. A doctrine that only the NZ Government is zelotic about". Maxwell
"Heartland NZ sees no reason to celebrate Clinton's tariffs and every reason to exercise political pressures in other
quarters of our relationship with the US". Heartland NZ's spokesman said.
"'New Zealand's big experiment as the leader in the free trade world, must be halted. It is about time that this
government let our producers and nation reap the benefits of fair trade. They must now state categorically that New
Zealand will no longer be running in the 'free trade' race". Maxwell concluded.
