"Had Lockwood Smith the courage to stand up to Wasserman, Beeman, and Clinton when lamb tariffs were first threatened,
and to name them for the pork barrelling, populist tyrants they are, this latest disaster for New Zealand farmers could
have been avoided, said Andrew Bates, Libertarianz Spokesman on APEC.
"It is a slap in the face for the Founding Fathers that these tariffs should be established in a week beginning on the
4th of July," a teary-eyed Bates lamented." It is abhorrent that a man with the middle name Jefferson should do to
Americans what the Declaration of Independence charged King George III with three centuries ago, namely, 'cutting off
our Trade with all parts of the world' and 'imposing Taxes on us without our Consent,'
"When Wasserman reminded Smith that the US was one of New Zealand's most significant export markets, he implicitly
threatened more tariffs should we not let this usurpation of rights pass quietly. Had Smith the courage to stand tall
and speak out in the face of such bullying, he would have shown the world what hypocrites the current United Police
States dictators are. Instead, he chose the politics of appeasement, and so accepted the burden which will break the
backs of many New Zealand farmers."
