HFA sacks 100 Christchurch workers

The government's Health Funding Authority is making its Christchurch workers redundant.
During the Ngai Tahu picket, a woman came up to the Embassy reporter and said HFA, a few doors down, had just made all
their staff redundant but were trying to keep it quiet.
In all about a 100 workers at the HFA office at 172 Hereford Street were affected. She said they were told the office
was being re-located to Wellington because it was cheaper. That was nonsense, claimed the woman because the front page
of The Press had reported that firms were coming to Christchurch because it was cheaper here than Wellington.
Also HFA wasn't going to save money because of all the redundancy it would have to pay out, she said. One man had worked
there for 30 years while some women had been there for 10 to 15 years.
