'Bunkle's Bill Bolsters Baddies'
Alliance MP Phillida Bunkle will this week introduce a Private Member's Bill that - if passed - would set up yet another bureaucracy, one which would support criminals, disarm lawful people, and endanger honest New Zealanders. Commenting earlier today on "Ms Bunkle's "Firearms Authority Bill' - due to be introduced into Parliament today - Libertarianz Firearms Spokesman Peter Linton says, "The safety and protection of every honest New Zealander requires that this Bill be stopped."
The Bill proposes a new Quango, a Firearms Authority, which would be "charged with managing the required reforms", meaning tasked with disarming honest New Zealanders. This means criminals would be the only ones still to have weapons, and with the full knowledge that the rest of the citizenry had been disarmed. Further, to be successful in this role - to 'adequately enforce compliance' - the Quango would need wide powers of search, seizure and forced entry into New Zealanders homes, the sort of powers normally seen in police states. "This, no doubt, is what attracts the Alliance's Ms Bunkle," suggests Linton, "the thought of a police force doing its citizens over, rather than protecting them."
Overseas experience shows that such law drastically increases violent crime. "Should this Bill be passed," suggests Linton, "and the inevitable mayhem then ensue, Bunkle and her henchmen should be charged as accessories to every burglary assault, home invasion, and murder that is then perpetrated on defenceless New Zealanders".
