FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The New Zealand Taxpayers' Union is calling on the Minister of Education to confirm that teachers who 'strike' with students at tomorrow's climate protests won't be paid for their time bunking off.
Taxpayers’ Union spokesman Louis Houlbrooke says, “People will have varying opinions on the protest’s merit, but what’s certain is that we don’t fund teachers to engage in political activism during school hours. The Education Minister needs to reassure taxpayers that teachers in the public system who bunk off with students tomorrow won’t be paid for it, just as they wouldn’t be paid on any other strike day.”
