In response to the use of ‘dowsing’ by ratepayer-funded contractors in Wellington, New Zealand Taxpayers’ Union spokesman Louis Houlbrooke says:
“It beggars belief that ratepayer-funded contractors are resorting to the tradesman’s equivalent of homeopathy. When the
Council was informed of this practice, it could have simply added a ‘no pseudoscience’ clause to its contracts. Instead,
it refuses to acknowledge ratepayer concerns.”
“Having contractors dig up pavement on the basis of vibrating sticks risks significant waste of ratepayer resources.
Councils across the country should review their contracts to better protect ratepayers.”
