'Tar baby’ report exposes Kiwibuild as welfare for the rich, waste of money
22 JANUARY 2019
Responding to the release of the New Zealand Initiative’s new report, Kiwibuild – Twyford’s Tar Baby, New Zealand Taxpayers’ Union spokesman Louis Houlbrooke says:
“While the Taxpayers’ Union would not have used such inflammatory language, we agree with the report’s conclusion that Kiwibuild represents a costly transfer of wealth from the general taxpayer to the relatively well-off.”
“Kiwibuild is made especially expensive by the various regulatory taxes that drive up the cost of land and construction. The Government would be better off addressing these stressors than throwing taxpayer money at the problem.”
