Responding to the resignation of Kiwibuild Chief Executive Stephen Barclay, New Zealand Taxpayers’ Union spokesman Louis Houlbrooke says:
“Reports suggest Mr Barclay has been absent from his role for two and a half months – so why has it taken this long for him to resign? What salary has he been paid over this period? If there was an employment dispute, how much has it cost taxpayers?”
“Taxpayers deserve more answers. In the meantime, we can only assume we’ve spent three months paying Mr Barclay’s salary while he hasn’t actually been doing the work. This kind of mismanagement at the top of Kiwibuild bodes badly for the rest of the project.”
