Taxpayers’ Union responds to approval of Auckland-Hamilton rail business case
19 DECEMBER 2018
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Responding to NZTA’s approval of a business case for the proposed Auckland-to-Hamilton passenger rail service, New Zealand Taxpayers’ Union spokesman Louis Houlbrooke says:
“With $78 million of funding from the poor old taxpayer, a few quick sums suggest that each passenger on this service will be receiving a subsidy of over $185 per ticket. This is a rort, driven by locomotive fetishism rather than financial sense.”
