The plan to close New Zealand Post branches has been welcomed by the New Zealand Taxpayers’ Union.
Taxpayers’ Union spokesman Louis Houlbrooke says, “As a state-owned enterprise, any financial loss at New Zealand Post is a loss for the New Zealand taxpayer. Therefore, it’s important that the service responds to changing consumer trends, even when it means difficult decisions like closing branches.”
“Maintaining 79 individual post offices is an inefficient use of taxpayer resources, considering these services could easily be integrated into other businesses. Declining use of postal services should justify a smaller investment from the taxpayer.”
