The Government recentlyannounced their review of tenancy laws.  They've put out adiscussion document and they'recalling for submissions. You can fill in their Residential Tenancies Actreform survey online or you can write your own submission.
Renters United are encouraging us to write our own submissions, telling our own stories about what renting is really likeand pushing for the changes that Renters United have outlined in theirPlan to Fix Renting. The Plan to Fix Renting calls for stable homes, fair rent, safe and healthy homes, and meaningful enforcement (e.g. changing the Tenancy Tribunal to an investigative model and anonymising tenants in the Tribunal rulings so renters are not deterred from standing up for their rights).
So this is an invitation to come along to an evening of writing submissions together.
Who: Any renters in Wellington
What: Hear from Renters United and local renters, then write your own submission - including your own stories of renting.
Where: Newtown Community & Cultural Centre, cnr Rintoul and Colombo Sts, Newtown, Wellington
When: 5:30 - 7:00pm, Tuesday 18 September
Why: It's more fun to write submissions together. Let's get together as renters. Please share the word, invite your friends.
How: we'll provide paper and a few laptops and hopefully a submission guide. We'll have copies of the Plan to Fix Renting, and the Government's review document. You can write a submission on the night, or just hear from the speakers on your way home from work and take away the info to write a submission later (Submissions are due by 21 October, by email toRTAreform@mbie.govt.nz)
Snacks and drinks provided.
Kids welcome (sorry for the less than ideal timing!)
