State Services Minister Chris Hipkins needs to demonstrate that he is not a pushover for self-serving unionists, says the New Zealand Taxpayers’ Union.
Taxpayers’ Union Executive Director Jordan Williams says, “First it was nurses, and now it’s bureaucrats who have decided the new Government is a soft target for strikes.”
“Chris Hipkins needs to play hardball now, and refuse further negotiation. Nipping strike action in the bud is the only way to prevent chaos in our schools, hospitals, and government departments.”
“This week we’re releasing a report which shows that officials at agencies like MBIE and IRD are already grossly overpaid. If anything, the Government should be freezing salaries at these departments until private sector wages catch up.”
