Blake award reinforces wahine toa’s love for the nation
Māori Party President Che Wilson is proud to celebrate the remarkable achievement of Dame Tariana Turia founding and
former co-leader of the Māori Party.
‘Pūtikiria te whānau hei oranga mō te tangata’ - Bind the strength of whānau to help the collective... This proverb
captures the essence of Dame Tariana from her childhood at Pūtiki to crossing the floor in Parliament and leading her
flagship kaupapa Whānau Ora,” said Mr Wilson.
Hon. Dame Tariana Turia has been awarded the Blake Medal the premium award for leadership achievement in New Zealand by
the Sir Peter Blake Trust. The Blake Medal is given to acknowledge and celebrate an extraordinary New Zealand leader who
has made an exceptional contribution to the country.
“Whaea Tariana has tenacity vision and an unwavering drive to help others. The Māori Party continues to appreciate the
legacy of her insights as we carve out a new pathway. She is generous with her experience sharing political strategy and
kaupapa driven approaches that are always focused on what will enable whānau to experience the best that life can offer.
“We are so pleased that the Sir Peter Blake Trust has recognised what whānau across the width and breath of Aotearoa
have also recognised – the inspirational leadership and visionary example provided by this much loved aunty kuia, great
grandmother and wahine toa.”
