Why does the Government hate Rodney?
26 APRIL 2018
Transport Minister Phil Twyford confirmed this morning that Rodney residents will pay four different ways for transport projects in Auckland.
Responding to Mr Twyford’s comments, Taxpayers’ Union spokesperson Louis Houlbrooke says, “Residents of Rodney will be paying for transport projects through the current fuel taxes, the proposed nationwide increase in fuel tax, the new regional fuel tax, and they will now be tolled for a new road in their backyard.”
“If Rodney residents are footing the bill for the SH1-Whangaparoa road through tolling, they should not be forced to subsidise the rest of the region’s transport projects every time they visit the petrol pump.”
“Instead of treating Rodney as a cash cow, Mr Twyford should consider the financial burden his proposals impose on the district’s residents.”
