National’s Northcote selection moves forward
National’s campaign for the Northcote by-election is underway, with nominations for the candidacy closing at midday today.
“We are very pleased with the calibre of the individuals putting their hands up to run for the seat,” Party President Peter Goodfellow says.
“National’s board will now consider the applications and a final five will go forward for consideration by the local party members.
“Once the final selection takes place on April 15, the successful candidate will be able to hit the pavement that afternoon and get in front of local residents straight away.
“Our campaign isn’t waiting though, with preparation already underway. Deputy Leader Paula Bennett has been appointed Campaign Chairperson, and will work with our experienced team to help ensure National has a strong new voice in Northcote.
“We’re taking nothing for granted. Residents in the electorate deserve a representative who can stand up to the Government and Council and advocate on the issues that matter, and that’s what National’s candidate will offer.”
