Win for Taxpayers' Union in SSC findings
22 MARCH 2018
Today’s findings by the State Services Commission inquiry, led by John Ombler QSO, into Dr Nigel Murray, are spot on, vindicate, and justify the work of the Taxpayers’ Union.
The Union successfully led a campaign calling for the resignation, or sacking, of Dr Murray and subsequently the former DHB Chair, Bob Simcock.
“Today’s report shows that our concerns about not only Dr Murray, but the failure of Governance by the DHB, were totally justified,” says Jordan Williams, the Taxpayers’ Union Executive Director.
“The DHB effectively tried to sweep the expense scandal under the carpet, but were caught out. This is a huge win for taxpayers.”
“In particular, we welcome the Commissioner's comments that the DHB Board put pragmatism ahead of principle and the public interest in allowing Dr Murray to resign.”
“It appears to us that those Board members who allowed Dr Murray to resign, and then played silly games to frustrate our efforts to get information under the Official Information Act, now have no option but to join Mr Simcock and resign.”
