Taxpayers’ Union welcomes Greens’ transparency measures
5 MARCH 2018
The New Zealand Taxpayers’ Union says every party should adopt the transparency rules announced by Green Party Leader James Shaw over the weekend.
Taxpayers’ Union Executive Director Jordan Williams says, “’More transparency’ has long been a focus of the Taxpayers’ Union, so we welcome this move by the Green Party.”
“When any MP receives a gift, there is potential for a conflict of interest. If all parties follow the Greens’ lead and ban the receiving of gifts, businesses that can afford gifts will lose their lobbying advantage over private citizens.”
