Stats NZ’s sexualisation of Winston Peters disturbing
26 FEBRUARY 2018
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Taxpayers’ Union is questioning Stats NZ’s use of taxpayer money to produce a video of a male comedian dressed up as a flirtatious older woman working in a census call centre.
Taxpayers’ Union Executive Director Jordan Williams says, “Is it really appropriate for New Zealand taxpayers to fund a video that name-drops Winston Peters with strong sexual overtones? It even goes on to publicise his Gold Card policy and compares him to Sonny Bill Williams.”
“I suspect many taxpayers will find the sexualisation of Winston Peters somewhat disturbing.”
“Stats NZ have been given $119 million to promote and carry out this year’s census. They need to use every dollar with respect for the taxpayers who earned it.”
