Socialist rhetoric has real cost
22 NOVEMBER 2017
The Taxpayers’ Union is saddened that Jacinda Ardern's comments about capitalisms “blatant failure” have caused
international media to suggest that New Zealand has “lost its way” with Forbes now predicting a recession under the new
Labour-led government.
Jordan Williams, the Taxpayers’ Union’s Executive Director, who came out of the closet as a neoliberal earlier this year
said, “Capitalism has not blatantly failed. More trade, fewer barriers, and the adoption of ‘neo-liberal’ market
reforms, have seen extreme poverty fall from 44 percent in 1980 to around 10 percent today.”
“Ms Ardern’s rhetoric may play well to her base but it clearly has ramifications. International media are predicting
that New Zealand will likely lose its status as one of the freer economies in the world, which drives down our
reputation as those offshore look to more inviting markets.”
