Apology to LGNZ and assessors of Horowhenua District Council re CEO's filtering of email
18 JULY 2017
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
In commenting on an audit report on apparent intercepting, blocking, and filtering of elected officials emails by the Horowhenua District Council's CEO yesterday, the Taxpayers' Union strongly cirticized Local Government New Zealand and its "Excellence Programme" for having just given a pass mark to the Council for its "listening and responding".
While the assessment was only released last week, and the audit report provided to Council in May, we have been informed by LGNZ that its assessment was actually conducted back in October last year.
"We accept that the assessors would not have had access to the audit report or known about the CEO's actions", says Jordan Williams, the Union's Executive Director. "We apologise for the mistake."
