The Greens Must Be Kidding!
16 FEBRUARY 2017
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Coffee was spat out this afternoon at the Taxpayers’ Union when Green Party Co-leader Metiria Turei released a media statement labelling the closure of the Cadbury chocolate factory a “tragedy for Dunedin and local manufacturing”. The comments by Ms Turei were despite the Green Party’s campaign push for the Government to introduce sugar and junk food taxes to reduce spending on those products.
Taxpayers’ Union Executive Director, Jordan Williams, says, “Lines like ‘Our hearts go out to the families’ of the three-hundred and fifty people who have lost jobs seem a bit hollow when Ms Turei is also advocating for taxes aimed at harming the very same brands and products.”
“With not the slightest acknowledgement of irony, Ms Turei blames the Government for the job losses because of apparent ‘inaction’ on manufacturing. If by ‘action’, Ms Turei means imposing the sorts of anti-consumer, anti-business, taxes like ones the Greens want to impose, then thank goodness the Government isn’t following their advice.”
