No further Tau flies have been found
Tau fly media update - 28 January 2016
No further Tau flies have been found.
A single Tau fly was found in a surveillance trap in Manurewa on Thursday 21 January. MPI is now focused on finding if there are any further flies present in the area. A network of lure traps are in place and if any flies are present, the traps will find them.
The Tau fly threatens some horticultural crops so if a population is present, the Ministry will work to eradicate it.
Restrictions remain in place on the movement of some fruits and vegetables outside of a Controlled Area that extends 1.5km from the location of the fly find. Residents in this Controlled Area are asked to ensure this produce is not moved: pumpkins, melons, cucumbers, capsicum, zucchini, beans, mangoes, eggplant, papaya and passionfruit. Fruit and vegetable waste and green waste can be disposed of in MPI wheelie bins conveniently located throughout the area.
