Health and Safety Reform Bill provides direction

Health and Safety Reform Bill provides direction for safer workplaces: EMA

The proposed changes to the Health and Safety Reform Bill will help provide direction for safer workplaces, says the Employers and Manufacturers Association (EMA).

“The proposed changes have taken into account what is needed to create a safer workplace across the range of New Zealand businesses and we are happy with the general direction this has taken,” says Paul Jarvie, Industrial Relations and Safety Manager, EMA.

“We submitted on several areas where the new law could be improved, and that looks to have been heeded in what has been released today.”

In particular, the EMA submitted on the following, which was amended:
• Tightening of the definition of a Person Conducting a Business or Undertaking (PCBU)
• The practical amendment made to worker participation which will match the size and requirements of the business

Mr Jarvie says as the bill progresses through the parliamentary process, the EMA remains committed to work with Government and Worksafe NZ towards a healthier and safer workplace.
