Entries Open for the 2015/16 SOLGM Overseas Manager Exchange Programme
The Society of Local Government Managers is now taking entries for the 2015/16 SOLGM Overseas Manager Exchange Programme.
This Programme provides an opportunity, through a short exchange with a partner manager in another country, for local government managers to develop their skills, competencies and knowledge as well as enhance their local government career.
The 2015/16 Programme offers three exchanges to the United States, British Columbia in Canada and New South Wales in Australia. Each exchange involves a hosted visit to the destination countryand hosting a reciprocal visitor from that country during the time period of the 2015 SOLGM Annual Summit.
“These exchanges provide our local government managers with unique opportunities to gain first-hand experience about how overseas local authorities operate as well as provide the host countries with insights from the New Zealand perspective” say SOLGM Chief Executive Karen Thomas.
“This Programme has been running for a number of years and we’ve seen many exchange recipients return inspired and armed with new knowledge. This has obvious and tangible benefits for their own organisations and we are grateful to sponsors Civic Assurance and JLT – without their support we would not be able to offer these opportunities.”
Entries to the Programme must be received by 31 March 2015 and the recipients of the three exchanges will be announced at the inaugural SOLGM Gala Dinner being held in Wellington on 16 April.
The Gala Dinner celebrates the outstanding contribution of local government professionals to the success of the sector so, as well as the recipients of the 2015/16 Overseas Manager Exchanges, the following announcements will also be made:
• The winners of the 2015 SOLGM Local Government Excellence Awards®
• SOLGM’s Leadership Scholarships supported by sponsors The Skills Organisation, The Leadership Development Centre and Opus International Consultants.
• The New Zealand winners of the LGMA Australasian Management Challenge sponsored by Civica, who will then go on to compete in the Australasian Finals to be held in Melbourne in June 2015.
