Police say Thames WINZ arrest should serve as warning to others

Waikato Police say the charging of a man following an incident in the Thames Work and Income office today should serve
as a warning to others that unacceptable behaviour cannot, and will not be tolerated.
Acting Senior Sergeant Martyn Hughes of the Thames Coromandel said Police were called to the Community Link Office on
Pollen St shortly after 10.30am.
"A disgruntled customer allegedly made insulting remarks with reference to Monday's events in Ashburton."
"As a result the 22-year-old man was arrested and will appear later today in the Thames District Court on a charge of
using insulting language in a public place."
Mr Hughes said it was hoped today's charge will reassure the community that Police take all such incidents seriously.
"People cannot and should not be able to threaten or insult others without consequence and our top priority is to ensure
the safety of all members of the public."
