2014 New Zealander of the Year supports Maori Party
The Māori Party is proud to announce that the 2014 New Zealander of the Year, Dr Lance O’Sullivan is gracing their national billboard campaign to encourage voters to support their Party and their candidates in the coming election.
“Having the calibre of Dr O’Sullivan prepared to put his reputation alongside that of the Māori Party sends a strong message that we have earned our place within the political landscape of this country”, says Maori Party president Rangimarie Naida Glavish.
“Dr O’Sullivan’s endorsement reaffirms our campaign strategy Tū Māori Mai – That’s Us, to encourage our people to step forward to stand alongside us and support our endeavours.”
Dr O’Sullivan puts his support more simply “Well I believe in the party – a statement I asked them to reflect in their national campaign. “
“And I did not make this commitment lightly. The work that has been achieved by the Māori Party in government has had a significant impact on my ability to have an influence in my profession as a doctor and my community. As a result we have an obligation to empower their candidates by putting our support behind their campaign for this election.”
The billboards have been installed throughout the seven Māori electorates.
General Manager Norm McKenzie says, “We have tried to strategically position these billboards where we have access. As a small party with limited resources that has been a challenge. If we had our way, Dr O’Sullivan’s billboard endorsement would be located in every town, city and outside every marae throughout the land. But we are grateful for his support and believe it will strengthen our cause in supporting the outstanding candidates we have in the seven Maori electorates for this upcoming election.”
