“The Sensible Sentencing Trust is horrified by Defence Lawyer Steven Zindel's comments at the Sentencing of a Man Jailed
for the Rape of his 4 year old daughter.”
Defence lawyer Steven Zindel who represented a man jailed for the rape of his 4 year old daughter, argued at the
sentencing that there was little or no impact on the 4 year old victim and there was no coercion.
"What is the world coming to when a lawyer tries to minimize this horrific act inflicted by the child's own father, the
person who should be protecting her?" States Leigh Woodman SST Victims Portfolio Manager.
"How can a defence lawyer stand in a court of law and say a father raping his 4 year old daughter has little or no
impact on the child? What the father did is sickening and disgusting, and what the lawyer said about this vulnerable wee
girl not having any long term effects from this terrible and very serious crime, is the type of thinking that
perpetrates these crimes." continues Woodman.
By stating there was no coercion the lawyer is implying the 4year old victim requested this crime. The lawyers comments
are implying it is okay to rape if you think there are no long term effects; there are always long term effects - ask
any rape survivor. This is not okay on any level!
Woodman concludes that "Steven Zindel is a disgrace to the legal profession. How does he sleep at night?"
