Coromandel MP Scott Simpson says ‘Pay Up or Lose Licence’ Message Is Getting Through
Coromandel MP Scott Simpson says fine dodgers are finally paying up since the introduction of strict new rules for traffic offenders.
Scott Simpson MP says ‘People who get caught breaking traffic rules now have two choices - pay up or lose your licence.’
He says ‘There’s solid evidence right here in the Coromandel that this new approach is motivating people who simply would not pay their fines.’
‘Since Driver Licence Stop Orders (DLSOs) were introduced in February, 19 people have finally paid their fines at Thames District Court. In fact, around the country, more than 10,000 people have wisely paid their fines or arranged a payment plan.’
Scott Simpson says ‘That equals $4.6 million coming back to the taxpayer. That’s a huge amount of money the Government can invest back into services for hard-working New Zealanders.’
