Waste Watch: In Auckland Council Even Secretaries Have Secretaries
17 July 2014
The Taxpayers’ Union has learned that the Auckland Council is currently advertising the role of personal assistant to serve the Executive Assistant of the Chief Executive. The role is currently being advertised at Seek.co.nz. Taxpayers’ Union Executive Director Jordan Williams says:
“No wonder Auckland Council has financial problems. It has more bureaucrats than the combined total of all of the councils it replaced and it appears that even secretarial positions now entitle staff to a personal assistant.”
"Len Brown has more staff in his office than even the Prime Minister. It’s bad enough that Mr Brown has two full time diary managers, but now even secretaries have secretaries."
“Everyone knows anecdotes about council road workers standing round while one works. It appears that the same approach is now being applied in the office."
On Monday the Taxpayers’ Union slammed Auckland Council for spending $100,000 of ratepayer money on a silk curtain for the Devonport Library.
“Len Brown is warming up the public to more rate hikes and less services. These examples of waste show that Mr Brown has plenty of room to trim the fat and find efficiencies."
The New Zealand Taxpayers’ Union is a non-partisan activist group, dedicated to being the voice for Kiwi taxpayers in the corridors of power. It’s here to fight government waste and make sure New Zealanders get value for money from their tax dollar.
