Len Brown's Debt Chickens Coming Home to Roost
7 JULY 2014
Responding to the New Zealand Herald report that Auckland Council is looking to reduce its planned spending by more than $2.8 billion over the next decade,Taxpayers' Union Executive Director Jordan Williams says:
“The chickens are coming home to roost at Auckland Council. Without substantial cost cutting, Len Brown's promises are unaffordable unless the Council is able to find a way to tax Aucklanders even more."
"It is not as though Auckland Council's debt levels crept out of nowhere. As our recent Ratepayers' Report showed, Auckland Council has a higher liabilities per ratepayer ratio than any other council. Per ratepayer, Auckland Council owes nearly $16,000 in liabilities to third parties."
