Does David Cunliffe Really Want Another Kiwirail Black Hole?
7 JULY 2014
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Responding to Labour Party leader David Cunliffe's target="_blank">pledge to investigate buying back former state assets Jordan Williams, Executive Director of the Taxpayers' Union, says:
“Having just had the lessons of KiwiRail and Solid Energy, why would David Cunliffe consider repeating the mistake of ideological nationalisations?"
“KiwiRail has cost taxpayers $12.2 billion since it was purchased by the Crown in 2008. That’s the equivalent to over $2,700 per New Zealander. Worse, every time a ferry breaks down, more politicians than mechanics pile on."
“How many lessons do we need before politicians realise they are poor at picking winners with the public purse?”
