Candidate welcomes $2.4 million new money for Arrowtown Primary School
Clutha-Southland National candidate Todd Barclay has welcomed the Government’s announcement to fund new classrooms at
Arrowtown Primary School.
Associate Education Minister Nikki Kaye today announced a $2.4 million investment to build six new classrooms, due to
open in 2015.
Mr Barclay says that given the Queenstown-Lakes District has experienced a population increase of 22.9% since 2006 this
increased capacity will enable future growth and attract young families to the area.
“The new classrooms will provide safe, modern learning environments that support innovative teaching styles.
"The new classrooms at Arrowtown Primary School is exciting for the district and will help facilitate the fast-paced
growth the Queenstown-Lakes are is experiencing. A strong schooling network is essential to attracting skilled and
professional young families," says Mr Barclay.
Other projects already underway in the district include three recently new teaching spaces at Remarkables Primary
School, construction has begun on a new school at Shotover near Queenstown, which will open in time for the 2015 school
year, and planning is also under way for the relocation of Wakatipu High School by 2018.
