Response to the Glenn Inquiry People’s Report.
The Canterbury Family Violence Collaboration today welcomed the release of the Glenn Inquiry “People’s report “.
The Collaboration’s Steering Group Chair Lois Herbert said the messages contained in this report are essential reading
for anyone interested in keeping our children and families safe and healthy. Mrs Herbert paid tribute to all those
victims, perpetrators and front-line workers who had the courage to come forward and tell their stories.
The Canterbury Family Violence Strategy is based on the premise that inter-agency collaboration focusing on improving
the lives of children and families is a very positive way to make a difference. This is also identified in the Glenn
report as one of the areas that is working well.
“In Canterbury the strength of our collaboration is that it runs across all sectors of society, and includes both
Government and Non-governmental agencies” Mrs Herbert said.
The Collaboration has five strategic areas in which Work Streams take action, these include:
Co-ordinated Crisis Response, Prevention, Youth, Staff Learning and Development and Housing. These Work Streams are
currently planning and delivering many projects across the family violence sector. Some recent examples include shared
family violence training across organisations and agencies, research and education in local high schools to promote the
youth voice within the sector and targeted multimedia prevention campaigns.
These Work Streams are the front-line of the Collaboration, which is developing a long-term strategy which puts the
welfare of the victims and their families at the very centre.
