New Group Targets National Party’s Environmental Abuse
Wellington, Sunday 15 June 2014: New group Environment Action NZ launched their opposition to the direction that the
National Party has lead the country over the past six years by hanging a 4m by 2m banner off Trades Hall, Vivian St
today and to announce their presence.
Banners being erected at prominent sites around Wellington, and soon around the country, read: ‘National: dirty rivers /
toxic mining / oil spills / asset sales’.
“National’s policies have lead us closer to toxic mining for gold, oil spills from deep sea oil drilling, they have sold
assets the public owned and our rivers are in drastically worse shape than six years ago”, said national spokesperson
for Environment Action NZ, Richard McIntosh.
“The Prime Minister has re-affirmed his vision for sicker rivers and the energy company asset sales have further
disintegrated our world-class renewable energy system”, he said.
“We want to encourage voters to have these issues foremost in their minds and to challenge National’s appalling legacy
leading up to the election in September”, said Mr McIntosh.
Flaxroots campaigning gets under the skin of PR-saturated politicians by bringing to the fore the issues that the public
care about and National Party politicians would prefer to be swept under the carpet.
