Peeni Henare selected as Labour’s Tāmaki Makaurau Candidate
Labour Party President Moira Coatsworth has announced that Peeni Henare will be Labour’s candidate for Tāmaki Makaurau at the 2014 General Election. He was selected from a strong field of three nominees in a members hui at Nga Iwi School in Mangere.
Moira Coatsworth said today:
“Today we have selected a very strong candidate in this important seat.
"Local members have told us that the Tāmaki Makaurau electorate needs an MP who understands the challenges faced by Maori whanau and who will fight hard for the local communities. Our process has given us an impressive candidate who is fluent in te reo and has a strong background in public and community services. Peeni will advocate strongly for the people of Tāmaki Makaurau on key challenges of housing, work and whanau support."
Peeni Henare said today:
“It is time to bring the seven Maori seats back home to Labour. Lets start with taking back Tāmaki Makaurau. As Labour candidate I will work hard for my Party and for my people – we deserve better. Tomorrow will be better with Labour”.
