Labour leader David Cunliffe says Labour may revisit MMP’s “coat-tail” provisions if elected
Labour leader David Cunliffe told TV1’s Q+A programme that his party would “quite possibly” look at getting rid of the
“coat-tailing” provisions under MMP rules.
“Quite possibly. Because of course we proposed to the current government that the coat-tails provisions be removed in
exchange for lowering the bar from 5% to 4%. That’s I think a very popular mix of policies. National did not do that.
One might suggest because they wanted to keep ACT and the Conservatives and United Future in play. And it's just
possible that that might go down in history as one of the worst decisions that my opponent has made.”
Q+A, 9-10am Sundays on TV ONE and one hour later on TV ONE plus 1. Repeated Sunday evening at 11:35pm. Streamed live at www.tvnz.co.nz
