Tolley Doesn't 'Vet' It !!!

Sensible Sentencing Trust is incensed at Police Minister Anne Tolley’s announcement this afternoon that she will
introduce legislation to enable the Police to charge for its vetting service. SST National Spokesperson Ruth Money says,
“If the Minister was true to her stated wish of delivering a more efficient and sustainable vetting service, criminal
records would be online in a publicly accessible database for anyone to access and police could then get back to the
front line”.
“The introduction of charging for this service will no doubt see less vetting checks performed and therefore further
increase the risk to the public”.
“When offenders are sentenced in an open court it is simply ridiculous that the public cannot access this information
online and for free”.
“Tolley states that demand for Police vetting has almost doubled in the past decade which is further evidence that NZ
both needs and wants an online offender database that is able to be accessed by the public. It’s about time the Minister
started to listen to the public on this key issue.”
