Taxpayers’ Union Welcomes Key’s Rejection of ‘Fat Tax’
16 APRIL 2014
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Taxpayers’ Union is welcoming Prime Minister John Key’s rejection of fat and sugar taxes ahead of this year's election. Jordan Williams, Executive Director of the Union, says:
“We welcome the Prime Minister’s common sense stance. Countries that have tried to tax tuck shops have failed to make a dent in harmful consumption and the taxes have turned into revenue gathering tools.”
“We encourage Mr Key to go one step further and cut the taxpayer funding to the groups pushing activist science, and using public money to promote new taxes,” concludes Mr Williams.
