Union Welfare: Taxpayer Paying Public Servants a Bonus for Joining Trade Union
13 APRIL 2014
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Taxpayers’ Union is outraged that taxpayers are being forced to fork out bonuses to Parliamentary staff on the
condition that they join a trade union.
Taxpayers’ Union Executive Director, Jordan Williams, says “This is union welfare and a political subsidy for the left."
"We know of parliamentary staff who feel uncomfortable with the pressure from the Parliamentary Service to join a union.
The bonus is just a formalised version of bullying people who don't won't to join a union."
“The Government should scrap these kinds of deals. It made sense that the Labour Party would want to ensure its trade
union donors are well funded. The fact it is continuing under National is outrageous."
The details were revealed in today’s Herald on Sunday. The email referred to in the article is available at www.taxpayers.org.nz.
