Crestclean Calls for NZ ‘Repeal Day’
New Zealand’s largest privately owned commercial cleaning company CrestClean today called for the Government to
implement its own ‘Repeal Day’ and get rid of the dead-weight of unnecessary regulation.
With the Australian Government announcing plans to cut $1 billion in red tape by cutting out unnecessary and costly
legislation and regulation through its ‘Repeal Day’, New Zealand has an equal opportunity to implement a similar ‘Repeal
Day’ to help Kiwi companies get ahead,” said Grant McLauchlan, Managing Director of Crest Commercial Cleaning.
“Repealing out-of-date and burdensome legislation should be a priority policy platform for the Government, and one that
allows it to make decisions instead of holding more reviews, said Mr McLauchlan.
“Take the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment’s long awaited Review of the outdated and anti-competitive
Principles for the Property Service Industry as an example. MBIE recognises that the current practice breaches the
Government’s own Rules of Sourcing in not treating all suppliers equally and prevents NZ suppliers a full and fair
opportunity to compete.”
The Australian Federal Government has looked at its procurement policies and decided to abolish the Commonwealth
Cleaning Services Guidelines – a move that now creates a level playing field for companies seeking Federal Government
contracts.
“A move by the New Zealand Government to abolish the Principles for the Property Service Industry would certainly be
welcomed by many companies seeking to tender for government contracts and expand their businesses,” said Mr McLauchlan.
“With costly legislation and regulation harming competitiveness and hampering economic and jobs growth the introduction
of a ‘Repeal Day’ would be a very positive move.
“It would certainly be an excellent policy announcement and excite small business owners faced with thousands of dollar
in red tape as we lead up to this year’s election,” Mr McLauchlan said.
