Labour just doesn’t get it
Labour only has itself to blame for its dismal poll results and will need to have a close look at long-term strategy if it is stand any chance at the next election.
Sensible Sentencing Trust spokesman, Garth McVicar, said Labour had traditionally taken a soft stance on law and order issues and that was now coming back to haunt them.
“Labour campaigned to get rid of Three-Strikes at the last election and have indicated that would once again be their policy this election.”
“Labour just doesn’t seem to understand that safety is the number one priority for New Zealanders.”
“We want our women and children to be protected from violent offenders and Labour will need to understand that, it really is that simple.”
“We want to walk our streets, run in the park and sleep in our homes without fear of some random vicious assault, but most of all we want to know that criminals who commit these crimes are held accountable for their actions. Three-Strikes does precisely that.”
“The bad guys are now locked up and New Zealand citizens are safer as a result, I can’t understand that Labour doesn’t get that.”
“The police are telling me they love Three-Strikes and the fact recidivist offenders are now in prison where they belong.”
“Rather than campaigning to get rid of Three-Strikes Labour would be much smarter to widen the scope of Three-Strikes to ensure burglars were captured under the same legislation.”
“Catching burglars and protecting our homes would appeal to Labour voters.”
“New Zealand used to be the safest country in the western world, New Zealanders want that again.”
“Labour will need to understand that if they are to have any chance of forming a government.”
