National Party President acknowledges Tony Ryall’s outstanding contribution
National Party President Peter Goodfellow today acknowledges the outstanding contribution Tony Ryall has made to the New Zealand Parliament, the National Party, and the last two National Governments.
“Tony will leave a legacy that very few will match.
“I believe anyone who has worked closely with him would agree with me when I say he is one of the best Health Ministers this country has seen.
“There are many New Zealanders who are better off today because of his careful stewardship of the portfolio and drive to achieve results that change people’s lives.
“Tony will leave at this election with the respect and admiration of colleagues and his opponents alike. I wish him and his family well for whatever new opportunities lie ahead.”
Mr Ryall currently holds the portfolios of Health and State Owned Enterprises.
He was first elected in 1990, winning the then East Cape seat from Labour. By the last election, he had built a majority of nearly 18,000 in the now Bay of Plenty electorate, and the second strongest party membership in the country.
Mr Ryall’s previous Ministries in the Shipley Government included Justice, State Owned Enterprises, Local Government, Youth Affairs, and Housing New Zealand. While in Opposition, he served as Law and Order spokesman, then as Health Spokesman.
