New Low in Auckland Mayoral Scandal

Responding to media reports this afternoon that Auckland's Mayor, Len Brown, will pay only $40,000 of the reportedly
quarter of a million plus bill to Auckland ratepayers for the EY report into Mr Brown's misconduct, Jordan Williams,
Executive Director of theTaxpayers' Union says:
"It was solely Mr Brown’s conduct that made the EY report necessary. If Mr Brown’s colleagues could trust the Mayor, the
$250,000 EY report would not have been required."
"We understand that it was Mr Brown's lack of cooperation and his reliance on lawyers that caused the costs to escalate.
Why isn't the Council taking steps to recover the full amount?"
"The councillors who have let Mr Brown off the hook for at least $200,000 need to explain how it is fair that ratepayers
pick up most of the tab. The only thing the $40,000 does is acknowledge that Mr Brown was to blame for the report being
necessary."
“The amount is a token gesture and a slap in the face to Auckland ratepayers. It is a new low for Mr Brown. Does he only
pay a fifth of his rates too?"
