Palm oil petition: 1000 signatures in first seven days
6th March 2013
The petition calling on the government to tighten weak palm oil labelling laws has attracted 1000 signatures in the
first week since its launch at Auckland Zoo last Wednesday.
Campaign Coordinator, Ben Dowdle says, “The huge success of the petition in only seven days is an indication of the
massive support that palm oil labelling as a policy has”
“The simple addition of seven letters to our labelling requirements would empower consumers to be able to make an
ethical choice. Norway has used a similar policy to slash its palm oil consumption by over 60 percent.”
“The Minister of Consumer Affairs, Craig Foss, continues to refuse to even consider the issue.”
The petition will be presented to parliament in August following a sustained petition campaign both online and in hard
copy form.
