On 2 March, hundreds gathered after the 8th annual Maui’s Dolphin Day at Te Kopua Domain in Raglan to Press Release for
“Stand Up & Be Counted”, an aerial photograph taken by Droidworx Aeronavix, Ltd.
Concerned members of the community and from afar joined to participate in this massive “human Maui’s Dolphin”
representing a powerful message in itself intended for the New Zealand government. This comes with anticipation of the
Threat Management Plan for the critically endangered last 55 Maui’s Dolphins.
This large scale environmental art image was organized by “Let’s Face It” Visual Petitions coordinator Peggy Oki,
Founder & Director of the Origami Whales Project.

Origami Whales Project:
Since 2004, the Origami Whales Project (OWP) has worked to raise awareness concerning threats to cetaceans (dolphins and
whales) through its stunning and memorable "Curtain of 36,000 Origami Whales." Created by thousands of concerned
citizens across the globe and exhibited throughout the world, this large-scale public art project serves as a powerful
visual statement and memorial for the thousands of individual whales killed since the 1986 ban on commercial whaling. As
urgent need for cetacean rights activities arise, the Origami Whales Project has expanded with additional outreach and
education programs, creating "Curtains" of origami dolphins and whales in United States, Japan, Dominica, and New
Zealand.
