Delivery of 2013 Census forms begins tomorrow
A team of more than 7000 census collectors will deliver Internet Access Codes and paper census forms to every home in
New Zealand between 16 February and census day on 5 March.
“It’s a massive logistical operation to ensure everyone is counted in the census, but all the preparation work we have
done means Statistics New Zealand is ready to take on this task,” General Manager of the 2013 Census Carol Slappendel
said.
“People will be able to recognise an official census collector by their yellow name tag and the large blue bag they
carry.”
“We’ve made the name tags and census bags as identifiable as possible to ensure people can tell that the person visiting
their home is an official census collector.”
“Census collectors will give every household an Internet Access Code, a dwelling form and an individual form for each
person.”
Census collectors will be encouraging people to go online to complete their forms.
“If a household completes their census forms online collectors may not have to return. The online option is secure,
quick and easy,” Carol Slappendel said.
Everyone in New Zealand on census day, including overseas visitors, must fill in a form.
The information collected in the 2013 Census will be used to make future planning decisions for health, transport,
education, and local government.
