Submission period for Manufacturing Inquiry extended
The Parliamentary Inquiry into Manufacturing Committee met for the first time last week to plan the work of the
Committee and agreed to extend the period of submissions, Committee Chair Cameron Moore said today.
“The Committee has been very pleased by the large number of submissions it has received so far from businesses, industry
organisations, unions, workers, and other concerned New Zealanders for its inquiry into the state of manufacturing in
New Zealand. The quality of the submissions is very high and the seriousness of the problems they describe is clear,”
said Mr Moore.
“A number of people and groups have asked the Committee for more time to make their submission. The Committee has
listened and, acknowledging that this is a busy time of year, decided to extend the submission period until the end of
December. Oral hearings will now take place in the new year,” said Mr Moore.
The Committee is also pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Nigel Haworth as expert advisor to assist the
Committee in the writing its report. Professor Haworth is Professor of Human Resource Development and Head of the
Department of Management and International Business in the Auckland Business school at the University of Auckland. He
has extensive experience in employment relations, international economic integration, and economic policy development
and implementation. He was Chair of the Partnership Resource Centre and Chair of the Centre for Housing Research, and is
currently Chair of the Advisory Board of the High Performance Work Initiative.
