Exploratory drilling due to commence tomorrow on Parliament Lawn!
Tomorrow, Wednesday 16th of November, at midday, concerned citizens will gather on Parliament Lawn to demand an
immediate end to hydraulic fracturing on the National Day of Action against fracking. A drilling rig will be erected
right on the government's front yard.
Hydraulic Fracturing is an incredibly destructive form of gas extraction which is fresh water and fossil fuel intensive
and has caused serious water and air pollution. In various places in the world, including the whole of France and South
Africa, bans and moratoriums have already been placed on fracking, Now its our turn.
'With Labour, Greens and and the Mana party all speaking out with concerns over fracking, the time is right to put an
end to this dangerous practice.' says anti-fracking organiser Jessie Dennis
'Fracking is one of the most dangerous forms of fossil fuel extraction available and communities, such as Parihaka in
Taranaki, are already facing it happening in their area with dangerous chemicals being pumped under their ancestoral
homeland.' says Dennis. 'If the government has its way fracking will soon be happening all over the country. We need to
put a stop to fracking now, before it's too late.
Tomorrow, all over Aotearoa, people will demand that their right to clean water and a safe environment be respected by
ending fracking immediately. The government is now looking isolated in it's refusal to acknowledge these demands, but
tomorrow our voice will be heard loud and clear.
