National Spending Like Greens on Crack!
“The National socialist government continues to run lolly scrambles for foreign countries on the nation’s credit card,”
says Independent candidate for Tamaki, Stephen Berry. “This time $8 million is being spent on a solar power plant in
Tonga.”
Stephen Berry says the actions of our government are fiscally reckless in light of their ever worsening financial
status. “The expense blowout caused by the Christchurch earthquake now looks set to increase the 2012 budget deficit to
$19 billion. The party of supposed fiscal conservatives are spending like Greens on crack! I am really struggling to see
the difference between the approach of our current government and the Soviet Union who used to buy the support of other
countries with aid for infrastructure spending.”
Tamaki‘s only candidate for freedom argues that New Zealand’s government should not be spending any taxpayer money
overseas at all. “The economy needs tax cuts to have any chance of reaching the optimistic forecast of 4% annual growth
set by Bill English in the 2011 budget. The government books need massive widespread spending cuts to get government
borrowing under control. A program of state asset sales needs to be undertaken urgently. There is absolutely no logic in
the Government using our money to create state assets in another country!”
Mr. Berry’s foreign policy is based on free trade and friendship. “I support open borders for peaceful people, free
trade without protectionism and a practise of engagement and diplomacy. I do not support the state investing in other
nations or choosing sides in foreign wars. If private individuals wish to send money to an overseas government or
charity that is their own business but governments should not be charitable with other people’s money.”
